How can I fix my bath taps?

I have recently replaced the washers on my bath taps. I put vaseline on all the moving parts but the taps are very hard to turn on and off. Should I use some other lubricant or is it a sign that the taps are getting old and actually need replacing. They are about 40 years old.

If you are keen on the look aof your taps and want to keep them or just don't fancy ripping out a load of dstuff in your bathroom it's possible to buy new inserts for your taps try your local plumbers merchant or DIY store. this will avoid a lot of hassle bathtaps are usually 3/4" and sink are 1/2"
