Performance Power Pro battery (B&Q)?

I need replacement batteries for range of PowerPro tools. 18v, model CLM18vG2bat. B&Q don't do them any more. Any ideas for compatible ones?

Hi people,
following clues in various answers and doing a bit of detective work (on youtube) it seems that you can get the individual cells for these batteries at that on-line store for the famous mythical tribe of female warriors and probably the world famous auction site.

They are known as "sub-C" cells, don't confuse them with the 4/5 sub-C as they are a smaller cell of the same rating. You will need 15 of them for the 18v battery, which comes in at £19.99. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B06XKB4MX2/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=A1O371PGKL7UNO&psc=1
Then, if you take your battery case apart and replicate the layout with a bit of careful soldering, you can re-cell the battery.

A couple of words of caution: you need to re-use the little white box bit in the same part of the circuit (a heat sensor I think); make sure your solder joints are good - to prevent arc-ing; but be careful not to apply too much heat as this can damage the cells; and finally, be careful not to short out the cells as you build the pack (as the bloke on youtube did when re-engineering a pack https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wn6ruw_39MM )

I'm waiting for my cells to arrive and will update with any hitches I encounter. I came to the conclusion that this option was easier than the reworking of a Ryobi battery as that has to be modified with the layout of the cells to give the correct polarity at the connection to the tool.

Hope that helps in this throw away world...

Here I am in 2021 and my batteries have given up for my performance power pro set,

Anyone still out there manage to find the cell packs assembled?

Danny, April 2021
Can anyone show pictures of how to re-work the ryobi battery to work with the pro ?
Thanks

Neal in June 2011 said he had drawing to modify a Ryobi Battery a B&Q Performance Power Pro Battery 18V, does anyone have a copy or can send me instructions. I am still looking for CLM 18VG2BAT but no luck yet. Many thanks

I have just found on Youtube the way to fix your batteries, please visit the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jjNHmMB5ns&feature=related

Had the same problem myself. The problem is that NiCd cells can grow crystals inside that short the cells out. you can check if this has happened by measuring the voltage across each cell in turn. any that have zero volts across them have developed this internal short circuit. The solution is quite simple. Briefly (2 - 3 Seconds) connect a 12volt high current supply across each affected cell in turn ensuring correct polarity (a car battery charger or a small 12v lead acid battery (type used in burglar alarms) are ideal). This breaks the short circuits and brings the battery back to life. Word of caution!! don't connect the power across the cells for more than about 3 Seconds as rapid cell heating can occur.

Just found the post. I've just ordered new cells from batteriesplus.co.uk (NiCad 12 off at £1.50 each - size in my pack is sub C). It should be easy to replace the cells in the battery assembly. There's only one dud cell in my pack but it's always better to replace all cells.

the battery from a ryobi fits into the power pro but in reverse and works perfect all you need to do is cut abit of the plastic away ,for me its better than throwing my pro pack of cordless set away ,if any one wants a picture just email me

Read Andy's (feb 2010) solution and had a gamble. I bought a "RYOBI ONE+ BPP 1817" from toolworld for £25 and changed the cells as he described and I now have a new battery.I have a set of 5 tools I can use again . Great advice thanks a lot.

DO NOT USE REBATT

I sent a cheque with my battery and they lost the battery and refuse to refund the cheque they cashed.

£60 out of pocket and no battery for my drill!!

Thanks Rebatt

Hi Guys check out screwfix. I have found that Erbauer batteries fit the pro range.

Hope this helps.

Give this guy a try at http://www.batteryfix.co.uk.

He did a 14.4v battery for a Performance Power Pro Drill for me when he fitted upgraded batteries at a cost of £43 inc p&p. This is about £5 cheaper on average than the charges made by other companies.

When I tried my drill out with the new power pack it went from a Mk1 Ford Consul to a Ferrari in one go - Mega impressed.

there`s a ni cad fix on ebay cost about £5.00 inc postage, suppost to bring back to life dead batteries, don`t no ifvits any good though...

Alan, April 2010
I had the same problem aswell, so i bought some new "RYOBI ONE+ BPP 1817" batteries on ebay and swapped the internal cells between the batteries. The only problem is the contacts are turned 180 degrees in the opposite direction. To correct this, break the spot welds under the top cell and turn the contacts to the correct position and fit the smaller spacer from your old batteries.(15 min job)
My batteries are like new and work perfectly.
Hope this is helpful

Andy, February 2010
Before buying anything - check whether there is any voltage at all between the main terminals! My battery died, I couldn't find a replacement and so bought a new Bosch drill.
I just now read this article and opened up the battery to take a look and discovered that one of the interconnecting straps between the cells had corroded away - a touch of solder and all is well again !! - except my wallet.

DaveG, February 2010
Dear Rod, I have the same problem with trying to find batteries, however, you have to literally "hunt" these batteries down in order to buy just one of them. Personally, I feel B & Q and other suppliers should buy our items back of us and not at cheap rate either ;or give the customer a replacement complete set of the tools that we have bought, with ;or without receipts, as they are the only suppliers of this brand. Whether B & Q read this or not, they should have the decency to keep on making batteries for Professional Power Pro. You might as well buy a car, but throw away the wheels and keys. You can start the car, but where can yo go with it ?

Batteries and tools have now had 2 weekends hard work cutting up 2" x 4" timber and 1/2" shuttering ply, with a few more to come, building my new timber garage.

Very happy with their performance, although with the extra punch the new cells have the circular saw does now smoke a little if I push it too hard.

Chaz, October 2009
Batteries have just been returned today. So looking forward to getting them on charge and attacking the timber sat on my drive to build my new garage.

Will post again with results after charging and a weekend of hard use.

Chaz, October 2009
The cost for me was £39 per battery plus P&P. Think the best way to deal with them is by phone though.

As yet I am still to receive my batteries back from them, although the communication has been very good as to the delay, so I am not unduly worried yet.

Chaz, October 2009
i also purchased the special offer box and yes i could not believe the numpties at b&q stopped selling the batteries !!!
ive used my kit so much and now all 3 batteries are dead almost beyond use.
anyone had a price yet for battery refurbish from rebatt.
i e.mailed them and have not had an answer yet as to costs.

nick goodrum, October 2009
I have just contacted Rebatt and am sending my batteries off to them next week.

Got to be worth a try, the idea of skipping perfectly good tools just because some numpty at B&Q decided to discontinue that particular product line does not sit well with me.

If I remember I'll post on here once I've got the refurbished batteries back.

Chaz, September 2009
Rod,
Did you ever get any joy regarding the Power Pro battery?
If so, can you let me have the details as I too need to replace my batteries.
Regards
David

David, July 2009
dont even bother i got my batterys done and it doesnt work its better to buy a new drill with new guarantee

jonski, February 2009
Go to www.rebatt.co uk and they will fit new battery cells in your old casing. It's a refurbishment company.

lisajt, February 2009
Lo there Rod,
Had the same problem myself....try Neil Daniel at, email ..."info@rebatt.co.uk"

They "recell" the batteries...with better quality cells, and "up" the capacity to 2ah....gives them more punch, and they last longer.
Hope they can help,
Regards

Your other option is to have the cells inside the battery replaced, I found these guys http://www.rebatt.co.uk . Not needed to use them yet, but I too have two 18v batteries that are start to show the signs of age.

Paul Fletcher, December 2008
It looks like the Ryobi CDi 1801 is the same model but branded. As yet I cannot find a supplier for that model but like you I will keep trying

merv, November 2008
I need exactly the same battery number - I bought the special offer box, which I'm betting you did too. The batteries died really quickly. I haven't been able to find any on eBay yet, so I suspect the only answer is to open them up and replace the cell inside. Let me know if you do find a supplier, but I think it's a long shot
