ford focus central locking problems?

I have a 5 door 1999 ford focus...the problem is that when i went to get into the car today the drivers and the rear passengers doors opened but the front passenger door did not, then when i went to lock it to retry and see if it would work ok,the central locking system locked then unlocked itself straight away,so i unlocked the front passenger door manually to see if this would help but now the key fob won't even work!!! I get the impression that in some way the problem is linked to the front passenger door but then again it could be anything.Does anyone out there have any insight to this that could help me out please???

Hi there,

My C/L works okay from the fob on my 2001 1.8 Ghia diesel but only the two driver side doors open and lock. The solenoids to not activate on the passenger side and the drivers side obviously sense that the passenger side is open and so open again immediately.

If I manually lock both passenger doors then the drivers side will open and lock.

Fuse? Sensors?

Hi I had the same problem with the passenger door not working on the key fob. I tried the various reset solutions but with no joy. so sitting in the car wondering what to do next, i opened the tailgate via the key fob and with all the other doors shut, locked and unlock the doors via the key fob. hey presto!!! all working ok now. GOOD LUCK OUT THERE!!!!!

Fuse 63 is easy to find and replace.
Yes you have to drop the glove box out,(easiest to take out the 3 screws on the glove box hinge), undo the 2 retaining screws on the fuse box and drop the whole fuse box down and out (you have to remove the small panel/carpet in the footwell first which is 2 srews).
The whole fuse box is on a long loom of cable and once in the footwell can be easily flipped over.
Fuse 63 (yellow wide paddle 20A fuse) is on the back and slots into the back casing. It is easy to find and replace.
This will reinstate the power to the central locking.

I pressed the fob and the locks tried to unlock. One side was fine. I was able to open it and turn the child safety lock with my key in the edge of the door. This door can be opened and shut now using the internal and external door handles.

The other door did not unlock. The lock mechanism blew the fuse. The child lock is still engaged. I can't open it from inside or outside. I tried another new fuse and tried to unlock with the other 3 doors open and watched the fuse pop.

The door remains firmly shut.

So.... now i have drawn a blank going to have to work out how to disengage a lock when i cant open the door to take the internal door lining off etc...

Any ideas would be welcome.

Had a problem with the central locking on the rear offside door not working. I have just tried resetting the push button on the door latch (6 times in 4 seconds) and this seems to have cured the problem.

Hi, I've a similar problem with my focus '99: when I turn the key on driver door sometimes it open just 3 doors (not the back left passenger one), sometimes it doesn0t work at all. The same thing happen when I try to clse my car. Tomorrow I'll try checking the far fuse 63... I'll let you know

I had a similar thing where you'd try and lock the Focus doors using the key remote and they'd unlock automatically. The only way it's lock the car was to use the key in the passenger side door. It sometimes unlocked/locked of its own accord whilst I was driving.

The thing that worked for me - a possibly a good first stop fix for Focus central locking problems (avoiding the dreaded Fuse 63 route) is to open either the passenger or driver's door and press the door catch button (soft touch black rectangular button behind the metal door catch on the frame of the door) six times in four seconds. This (apparently) resets the central locking system. It doesn't - or at least didn't in my case - reset the transponder system - so all my keys still worked afterwards - bonus!

Have a similar problem and have found a possible solution on the web.

It seems to be either fuse 63 or the motor/latch on the drivers door fouling the system.

Fuse 63 is on the back of the fuse box in the glove compartment. Undo the bolts and turn fuse box around, look for 20 amp fuse, it may need replacing or pushing in tighter.

If it is the motor/latch - you will probably need a mechanic.

The fuse solution seems to have worked for most people. Good luck
