How can I fix my Citroen Saxo Coded Engine Immobiliser?

P Reg Citroen Saxo SX 1.5 Diesel

The wrong code was entered too many times and now the coded engine immobiliser is locked. I do not have a user handbook and don't know what to do in order to unlock it. The RAC doesn't know either. Is there a waiting period? Or should I disconnect the battery for a time? Any advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks to Tim Jackson, whose suggestion worked first time.

I was trying to work on a friend's Saxo and had been told the wrong code. After three attempts it locked up and started bleeping.

I turned on the ignition and left it on for about 25 minutes, then it suddenly stopped bleeping and reset to normal. Then I entered correct code and started the engine no problem.

To allow the car to be started the confidential four figure code must be entered; the red warning lamp must go off and the green lamp must light.

In case of error, switch the ignition off and on again, then re-enter the code. After three successive false attempts, the keypad operation will be blocked automatically.

To free the keypad, switch on the ignition and wait one minute. switch off the ignition and then wait a further 30 minutes for the keypad to be released. A further attempts at entering the security code may now be made.

With the light of day I've found my own answer (easier & cheaper than 'fantazum's answer, but thanks for trying).

A call to my local Citroen Main Dealer gave the same result as fantazum's except that I was also told that I could try phoning Citroen Assist (0800 0565099) who, although I'm not a member, consulted their technical team with the following instructions:

"Leave the ignition switched on for about half an hour. Switch off, and then start the car as normal."

It seems that the half hour switched on clears the keypad etc. This doesn't happen just by leaving it switched off.

My comments - The Citroen Main Dealer would have been prepared to recover the car and charge me £60 + VAT + recovery. I'm disappointed that the Main Dealer didn't give me the simple solution to this problem.

Top marks to Citroen Assist for their helpful attitude to a non-member.

the immobiliser will need to be recoded. Ask your friendly local garage for the name of an alarm specialist. He will come to your car and recode it,issue you with a new fob and charge you about 80 quid. Simple!
