Hotpoint WM52, First Edition 1000 Problems?

My Hotpoint WM52 washing machine tripped the MCB in my house the other night. Having read much useful information on this forum, I took out the brushes hoping this was the cause, however, they are only half worn. I tried powering up the machine when it was all back together and the burning smell came back, any clues as to what may be the burn't out item? I cannot see anything obvious?

Many thanks.

In case this may be of use to anyone, it seems to be the supressor switch that was cooked.

New one on order for a few pounds and I am hoping that will be it!

Many thanks for your answer,

The burning smell seems to start when you turn the machine on. When it first happened it was half way through a wash cycle (with water in, well it would be wouldn't it!). I reset the timer and then turned it on again, and the smell started again. I don't think it is the motor so I will have a hunt around with it powered up and see if what I can find! many thanks for the advice.

Best regards,

Did the burning smell start as soon as you switched on or did the machine start to fill? Normaly burning smells come from either the main motor, the pump,or associated wiring (rarely from the heater) that just blows the fuse. The best thing I can suggest is to turn the appliance OFF and sniff the motor and pump...You will know if they are the cause by the smell or check for any worn or loose wires that may have come in contact with the cabinet. The best way to test is with a multi meter and the machine disconnected from the main power supply. Good Hunting!
