Hatyer Harrier 41. The engine runs erratically, unevenly (hunting)?

The oil, filter and plug have been changed by a Mower Service engineer but it has not cured the engine from running unevenly (hunting). I returned the machine for a recheck but a solution cannot be found by him. Also this is a powerdrive model and in drive mode the m/c moves relatively slowly to other similar models that I have used

Carb needs dismantling and properly cleaning in carb cleaner/ultrasonic bath. Replace rubber 'O' rings on inlet pipe if they're loose.

That should cure the hunting. The speed is controlled by the tension on the govenor spring. If this is stretched or damaged, it will affect the engine speed (and therefore the self-drive speed).

The engine is a Briggs & S. Quantum 45 127887-1959-01. The carb does not appear to be mounted on the tank.

What engine is fitted? If it's a Briggs carb-on-tank model, change the daphragm. If not, come back here and I'll advise.
