How can I fix my Hoover WMD 1500?

Just last night, I did a full wash, and at the end of the cycle, took the clothes out. My wife went to put another load in, and about half a gallon of water poured over the floor. We closed tthe door, and emptied the machine of water, put on the second wash, which completed, and we emptied the machine, closed the door, and with no power on, it started to fill again. We switched off the water, and have no idea where to start. T.G it happened now - we're goin' away for the weekend! Thanks for any help anyone can give, Nic Jamin. (It's JUST over two years old - coincidence, or what?)

Paul, Sorry about that, but I was taken into Hospital, and am only just recovering. We have discovered that the problem is with the Cold water supply. Is it easy to replace the valve, or shall I get a man in:-) ? I am reasonably competent, but don't want to go too deep.

you need to establish whether the water is coming from the incoming supply, or coming back from the sink waste.
as in recent years quick fit plumbing has been fitted to the waste in many houses, these are quite often poorly installed, and water drains back into the machine.
try turning off the incoming water to the appliance from the two little taps which should be behind the machine.
If this cures the problem, you probably have a faulty water valve. there are 2 on most appliances, and I would then try to identify whether the problem is with the hot or cold valve by repeating the last step individually with each tap.
