I have a 2004 S-10 4 wheel drive. Every winter I have problems with the 4 wheel engaging, Sometimes the lights on the dash just blink. Sometimes I have to engage it. disengage it ,and then engage it again. Right now it sounds like the front end didnt unlock even though the front wheels turn freely and the front drive shaft turns by hand.

Have you tried swearing & thumping the steering wheel, then staring at the headlining whilst chanting this well known mechanics repair mantra? "Dear God I swear i'll chuck you in the fooking quarry if you don't fooking WORK!!"
