No heating - 3 port motorised mid-position valve?

I have a Tower Mid-Position Valve and although I can get hot water my heating will not come on when we switch the programmer for heating only setting. The only way we can get the radiators to heat is by turning the hot water switch on the programmer to 'on' and also turning the Auto/Manual leaver on the valve to 'manual'. The only thing with this is that when the hot water reaches the temperature set on the cylinder thermostat both the water and hot water goes off.

We've had an electrician look at the wiring and can't seem to see a problem. Has anyone else experienced this, or does anyone know a solution. I don't know if it's the valve that's faulty or if it actually is a wiring fault. I know that it is quite common for these type of valves to get stuck, but not sure if there is an easy way to solve this or if we just need to replace the valve.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

My system is about 25 years old and this is a common fault. The valve head (the electronics box) can be easily removed with just two screws and replaced. No need to drain down Local Plumbers Merchants always have these in stock - £30-50

Problem fixed! Was faulty electonics in actuator of motorised valve. Contacted Tower mentioned forums, asked for replacement actuator. One was sent in post - easy job to wire - provided you have a very small flat headed scredriver for wires in your Controller panel - all one block all colour coded.

Note your actuator should have a 3 year warranty, but Tower sent me replacement one without asking for age. No drain down, just had to turnlocal isolator off - any queries feel free to ring me on 07801 71 6368 or 01257 226312. radiators all toasty hot and working independently from hot water

Merry Xmas

Got exacly same situation with Tower valve - sick of having to use washing machine or have a bath to get heating on!

Next Weds plumber in and I guess the only way is to replace with a Honeywell valve or similar - contact me on jim.m.smith@baesystems.com if you want to know how I get on

i HAVE EXPERIANCED SAME PROBLEM. ANSWER IS THAT THE WIRING ON OUR CONTROLLER WENT OPEN CIRCUIT. NEW MOTERISED HEAD REQUIRED.

Suspect motor in valve need to check resistance if open circuit
If accesses is available replace with syncron motor available at heating spares suppliers
