starting problem ford escort diesel?

sometimes the starter moter turns and car fires up, sometimes it wont but will bump start sometimes , after a few seconds (or minutes) holding on the key engine turns over. sometime goes fine for weeks other times , alot of problems for a few dyas then ok again, car is ford escort 1800 diesel 1992, someone said they thought fuse box problem

I have had the same problem with an Escort as well.
It turned out to be the ignition switch..
The conector that holds all the wires in the back of the ignition switch gets dirty or damp inside the switch and doesn't make a very good contact with the starting wire contact.
You could either get a new switch or take yours apart and clean it.
This solved my problem and I hope it works for you
