How can i fix my faulty gearbox?

I have a vauxhall astra 1.6 1993 model, recently when i slow down and need to go into second gear i have been unable to and now i am sometimes having trouble getting into first gear have to really push hard several times before i can get into gear, is there a simple solution or am i lokking at a big job?

Check to see if you have a manually adjustable clutch cable, these old Vauxhalls still used manual adjusters.
If you do a quick check of the brake & clutch pedals they should be level. If the clutch is a lot lower it needs adjusting from under the bonnet. If it is this type it takes about 30seconds to adjust.
