wrong reading in kms to empty?

kms to empty varies till 400%. meaning if you would have travelled 24 kms the kms to empty shows 125 to 25 kms. Is it the way it works?

Coasting down hill = many kM till empty
Driving hard up hill = few kM till empty

Will change depending on how driving - not accurate in kM - just a rough guide.
