Hi I have a hi grade VA250D laptop, when I press the power button power light comes on with wi fi and power light nothing on the screen have tried external screen (fn/f3) and still nothing.
(Have had problems over the last few months where if you knocked the laptop it would go off).
Can hear the HDD and DVD working.
Have taken out HDD, memory and removed cmos battery overnight but still the same. No beeps.
Did you get any replies?

Any help would be Appreciated.

Hi Guys

the only one fix for this hi-grade or fujitsu siemens similar units are to replace the via vn896.

here is the testing method
take ff the motherboard from laptop leave the fan and heat sink on
take off the wifi card
on hot air solder station set the temperature to 160 C
heat the chip up to 100C measure with laser thermometer.
after that quickly plug the power lead then
turn the unit on the wifi light goes off.
when the board has faulty gpu then the wifi light is on with or without card this is the symptom of faulty gpu.
after short time you will see the led lights blinking then the post start with error default mode in this mode the unit works until is hot.
what is happening?
when you heat up the chip to 100C inside the gpu you have the chip on NVidia or other is that small glass surface below you have nano balls.
if they are everheated they easily brittle.
because hi-grade and fujitsu siemens has the aluminium plate sticked down with double sided sticker this react like insulation.
this cause brittling the internal circuit of these chips.
unfortunately reball not helps.
I did 20 unit from 20 reball only one worked.
the guy who decided to fit the aluminium pad on the chip with double sided glue we can call him a dic k.
if you decide to replace the chip beware pf ebay sales most of these scammer Chinese companies buying in bulk faulty motherboards and taking of parts and rebaling them and packind to look like new.
new chip comes with 1-2 year warranty and welding profile and baking instruction to avoid failure from humid.
so these units are not worth to reball sale it or bin it

hi it seems you have overheated the mainboard and it needs reflow #
you can test this out hold the system half wayover the table and bend on the front in fromt of the mouse buttons then holding there press power and it should boot up without the wireless lighting up however when you let got the system will freeze up and when you restart the wireless light comes back on
this is because the contacts are not touching and a reflow will possibly fix it however it will keep happening if you don't sort the heat problem out so change fan heat sink and replace the compound helping the heat escape as it should

HOLD fn + f2 power on when wifi light goes off quickley press f3 but keep hold of fn button

i fixed a sony vaio once where the chip had come loose itself. with a hairdryer heat up both sides of the board doing the underside of the last so the solder runs back to the chip press chip down firmly n give it a little wiggle.you need a glove or something or you will burn your thumb.

ohh and DONT use reflow ..... this is a temp fix and wont last long just a tip..... get it reballed

Hey, I fix these laptops for a certain mentioned company and I can tell you now it is the graphics chip on the motherboard. It is similar to the red rings of death on the xbox. The graphics chip heats up and 'unsolders' from the board. They can be fixed by 'reflowing' the solder on the board but generally once it has happened a new board is required. Sell it for parts. Thanks

Had the same problam twice, luckily it was still under warrenty. On both occasions the report came back as the mother board

How to fix a Hi-Grade laptop;

1) Close the Lid and stop messing with it, take out your hard drive so your data is secured (Keep it somewhere safe!).
2) Walk over to a bin, and drop it in! Voila! Problem soved!

OR on a more serious note...

You could sell it on ebay as Faulty describing the exact problem you're having with it, then put the money you get towards a decent laptop with the new Windows 7 installed on it. You will get anything from £70 to £170 or even more, dependant on the type of problem and what hardware there is still in the laptop

*** For your own safety, DO REMOVE THE HARD DRIVE AND KEEP IT SAFE, there are some nasty people out there intent on recovering other people's data, and possibly financial data too. ***

same problem, try to turn on, screen remains blank but when you turn it on and hold down the wireless button and turn wireless off the computer will start, windows loads but will crash after about 2-20 mins

the problem is the onboard graphics chip if it has been dropped or severly knocked it is no good you need to buy a new motherboard i have the same problem and i stripped it bevause it was going to cost £225 for a replacement board

I have just fixed the same laptop!
Take off the large cover under neath.
There are 2 wires (grey & black) leading to the WiFi card that is slotted into a socket.
Check the wire connections - just push it softly till you cannot see the connectors.
Check the 2 memory slots also - make sure the memory modules are firmly in place.

Re-start up your laptop!!!

I have got the same problem as Simon Clarke and tried exactly the same route, this solved it by connecting a CRT monitor to the rear outlet port. It ran ok for 8 hours until the following day when the same occurred, but will not respond..sounds like the power inverter strip or the graphics card as the display went all lines and blocks before falure.at worst mainboard as no beeps.
