My car started jumping and cut out when I was driving and wouldn't start. When it did start there was loads of white smoke and it cut out again. Diesel filter was almost empty. Is there a pump on the diesel tank?

Is it a TDCi or just a TD? If its TDCi then it may have a pump in the tank itself like the peugeot HDi... Lift up the base of the rear seats and have a look if theres an access panel under the seats... if there is then its likely theres a low pressure pump inside the tank!

the diesel should be pumped at the engine end, there is usually a small prime pump near the engine too which needs to be used if diesel runs out, just keep pumping it until won't pump any more, may take some time though but don't stop or will have to start again.
remember you need to have diesel in the tank for this to work though!
