MAKITA 18V LITHIUM-ION BATTERY CHIP?

Hi,does anyone know if u can repair/replace or bypass the chip in these batteries? many thanks if anyone replies.
dover, November 2008
I bought a Makita kit with Lion batteries about two years ago. The plan was to do some construction work.
However I never had the time and the tool set was untouched. No I arrived back home and both the provided batteries are dead. Zero volts. The charger rejects them

The best thing to do is wait till the 10th month of ownership of the batteries then take them back to the shop/store where you brought them from, complain that there not working and get a replacement!
If everyone does this Makita will be forced to fix them problem because they will lose so much money!
Its what I do

Makita lion batteries a few years ago were brilliant as part of the inside was made from expensive cobalt. In the last few years makita are now using the less expensive magnesium in its place. My older batteries still charge fully but my newer batteries don't last as long and wont charge to full capacity.

I wouldn't say makita a shit they have always been the best since the 7.2 volt long battery's I just think its the lithium ion battery's. I bought the whole makita kit every battery went wrong. So moved to dewalt lithium and now 2 of the 4 battery's on that are now duff....only had them about a year and used for about 5 months of work time.....

Got 8 batteries the first 2 from oct 2008 still charging and growing strong, but to my horror the latest 4 batts 15 months old (x2) have failed also x2 13 moths old have failled but last 4 cells on each are still 3.4 v and above once you open them they will not charge as the chip voids this . the only way to get replacements of makita is not to open them and get them tested at makita service centre, get print out of this service sheet, then if done less than 500 cyles send them along with service sheet photo copy and copy ov reciept to makita returns service and technicle at milton keens sent mine on thursday got 2 new ones on tuesday so gen ones are ok if you get this response from makita i bye mine from d&m tools Twickenham top service and prompt top guyes and helpfull

I have 5 18 volts and 3 have gone wont charge took them back to bell tools in bristol the man in shop tested these and said they had blown chips and replaced all 3 free of charge all maktia battery's have a 3 year guaranty

I would never buy makita li-ion again, its a huge con. And they use every excuse under the sun not to replace the batteries. I bought a £1300 makita 18v LI-ion Kit with 3 batteries, 2 of them stopped working within 4 months and the last 1 a month ago. I am currently using the knock off batteries and cannot fault them, they are cheaper, just as powerful and would buy them again.

I have 3 Makita batteries fail in 4 months, purchased from an agent which is importing from the USA and the makita UK will not take responsibility when they fail prematurely

Dan Wall, July 2012
makita batteries are utter garbage Avoid Makita ion cordless tools like the plague. Also makita has deliberately
designed this system to con you out of more cash.

I have had 2 of my 5 batteries go down and there just over a year old. I took them apart and replaced the bad cells in one out of the other but still no joy. Must be that i tryed it on the charger a number of times to find out wich was the broken one. Dose anyone no if these generic batteries are ok if not then its bye bye makita.

c scarisbrick, February 2011
makita batteries are shit. i've had loads break, the makita man they said they were the best, wrong, i've had dewalt for years, never had to replace the batteries through being faulty so i'm going back to my dewalt and the makita shit is going in the bin.

sophie taylor, December 2010
as soon as the charger tell you the battery are bad do not try to recharge it again because at the third try the battery-chip will tell any charger not to recharge that battery any more. replace any bad cell make sure battery are in perfect conditions before trying again remember you have only 2 chance , if you did it right the battery will continue working fine for a long time.

ive had 5 makita 18v lithium-ion batteries go down in the last year when under a year old i complained makita changed then now with in 8 months 3 of the 5 gone down they are just rubbish i think but would love to know where to get my rubbish pile fixed

martin, June 2010
you can replace duff cells easily but the charger will never charge them again, you must then use a laptop charger designed for lithium cells.

quatermass, January 2010
if the battery in question will not charge get a torx securty driver and test each cell in the battery and replace the culprit cell.

Robert Kirkpatrick, August 2009
As far as a Power Tool repair center, we do not repair batteries. The Factories do not provide parts or breakdowns of their batteries. You could maybe try a place that specializes in batteries and see if they can help you, but you may just need to replace your battery.
