How can I fix Bell Box Tamper?

I hav a gardtec 800 series that i cant reset because it tells me "Bell Box Tamper" any ideas how i can fix this

Put code in twice then 0 to reset and change battery in bell box

the earlier gardtec bellboxes had a steel spring on the back of the box, these can rust away
