How can I fix my Whirlpool Dryer. Clock ticks, but motor won't turn on?

I have a Whirlpool Ultimate Care II Dryer. Lint Screen is on top. The clock ticks, so I know there is power. When I push the start button, nothing happens. I unplugged the dryer, turned buttons etc, and eventually it turned on. 20 minutes later it turned off again. Is there a cutoff mechanism that's gone bad or something?

Hello,

It's possible your have a motor going bad, heating up and then cutting out on the overload. If it runs a little, then shuts off, then, if it sits awhile will go back on only to shut off again I would suspect the motor or something binding the motor from turning. I would disconnect the belt from the motor and check to make sure there is no lint around the blower wheel and then run the motor with belt disconnected to see how the motor acts. Hope this helps.
