Bedford TL Clutch & Gearbox Problems?

I have a 1985 Bedford TL horsebox with 330 engine, the clutch is extremely difficult to press down, and I wondered if anything could be done to fix it?
Also, the gearbox is very difficult to select the correct gear, seems to have a mind of its own and it's pot luck if you get the right gear?

Any suggestions please?

this type of bedford normaly has a clutch cable, they
fill with water and rust. 99% of these hard clutch faults are cured with a new clutch cable.
the gear linkage fault is normaly the bush and bolt worn where the gear linkage connects to the top of the gear box.
both these jobs are simple to carry out.

Thanks for your help, with the gearbox it is any gear, they seem to be very close together and you get 3rd when you want 5th and 2nd when you want 4th!!!

Not familiar with Bedford TL but suggest you check clutch master cylinder and check that there is enough fluid in it.
Gearbox could be due to worn or disintegrating synchromesh rings - if so needs a gearbox overhaul. Is the problem always with the same gear?
