most golfs have a belt tensioner on teh left hand side of the alternator,
loosen this with a socket wrench then slacken & remove the belt
TIP: use tipp-ex or a bright coooured pen and match mark the position of the alternator on its bolt position before removing
undo the retaining bolts (usually 5, maybe 14 0r 16mm socket)
remove alternator and bobs your uncle
