how can i programme department keys on Sharp ER-440?

Please can someone tell me how to programme a word ie cards onto a depratment key on a Sharp ER-440 cash till - i have been reading the manual but it is not making sense!!

Hi.
You will need to know the department number. If you are not sure, find the 'standard keyboard layout' in the front of your book. It will usually be correct.

Turn key to PGM2 mode
Type 2114, then decimal point, then X button.
Now type the department number to be changed (type it on the numeric keypad, don't press the dept).
Now press X button

Now type the name using the keyboard as a type writer. If you find 'using character keys on the keyboard' (pg 45 in my book), it will show you how the keyboard can be used for letters.

Now press Subtotal
Now press Total

Note: on some machines the X button is called @/FOR, and the TOTAL button is called CASH
