indesit idl40 dishwasher not draining?

hi, the dishwasher seems to run ok, but is not draining properly. the filters are clean, as are the spray arms. there are no kinks or bends in the hose.

i have tried blowing back down the hose, but this has no effect at all, not even a bubble. not sure if that means there is a blockage or it is just a non return valve inside the machine? the sump where the filters sit is full of dirty water.

what are my options please? is the plastic sump where the filters sit removable and if so how? is the pump accessable and if so how? any help would be very welcome, thank you, alan

Excellent instructions Paul, many thanks, same as many others, took and hour and bit fiddly but well within layman's capabilities i think. All working fine now....minus one match!

Hi my dishwasher is not fully emptying is left with some water at the bottom. Please help.

kelly, March 2015
Brilliant advice thanks Paul unfortunately even after following your instructions to the letter I still have the same problem. Flooding and not being drained. Can you help please ?

Lsrry, June 2014
Awesome. I found a match stick jammed in the impeller chamber. Thanks for the detail Paul! :-)

Matt Roberts, December 2013
Followed your advice Paul, amazingly enough got everything back together without any problems ! Never done anything like that before. However my efforts were not rewarded there was no debris or anything, clean as a whistle :(
What should i do now ?

Fantastic - worked on my IDL 7021

Chris, March 2013
thanks paul, genius!

stuart, February 2013
Awesome advise from Paul, saved me a lot of money, and took no time at all.....Who needs a plumber ;-)

Bill, February 2013
Cheers Paul, couldn't afford to call out a repair man and not usually any good at that sort of thing myself but had it back working in no time! Lifesaver!! :)

Dylan, July 2012
Thanks Paul, my usual is call an engineer out but thought I'd give this a try. Working in a half hour.

Chris, June 2012
I just did this, took about half an hour with basic tools. it took me longer to remove and reinstall the dishwasher as i have little access in my kitchen. I didnt disconnect the leak protection microswitch, just moved the base plate to the side. I also didnt remove the hose/clip, I just removed the 3 screws that holds the impellor together and I could clean inside and spin the vanes to ensure it moves alright. I found a chunk of broken glass. I put everything back together and it works fine. Thanks Paul for saving everyone some cash!

Tim, March 2012
Thanks Brilliant Advice, had it working in less than half an hour, perfect....

Thank you so very much. Fixed our dishwasher in an hour. :)

FROM BELOW:

2 flashing lights, first two, pre wash and wash.

IMPELLOR PUMP BLOCKED, TO FIX, FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS;

Turn off water and electrical supplies

Remove all wash trays and filters; remove excess water from inside the dishwasher using a sponge and bowl, (saves soaking the kitchen floor later).

Remove the base plate; 3 screws behind the white kick plate at the front and 3 screws at the rear of the dishwasher, disconnect the leak protection system, micro switch with a polystyrene float fixed to the base plate. (brown and orange wires).

NOW TO REMOVE THE IMPELLOR PUMP

Tilt the dishwasher forward and rest on a small stool or box.

The impellor pump is connected to the waste pipe, this in turn is connected to the water chamber by a single screw, remove this screw and rotate the impellor pump counter clockwise to release, be careful not to lose the rubber ‘O’ seal.

(some water my leak at this point; did you cover the kitchen floor?)

Using a pair of pliers, pinch the spring clip holding the waste pipe to the impellor pump and separate the two.

(water from the waste pipe will leak out)

Using a screwdriver, try to move the impellor pump though the inlet hole (BE CAREFUL). Your debris should fall out, if not try blowing or part filling with water to see if the debris floats (mine did!), once cleaned you can reassemble the impellor pump.

Follow these instructions in reverse to re-assemble the dishwasher. Once re-assembled use a rinse cycle to test.

HAPPY REPAIRING... (worked for me!)

Had exactly the same problem with my IDL700, followed the impeccable repair instructions found on this site and had it up and running again within an hour, found an apple stalk in mine.

Paul F you are a star thank you so much.

Val Mc, December 2010

emma ferns, September 2010
Also works with an IDL 42, but I had to remove the front legs to get access to the base plate screws Many thanks

David Hill, July 2010
Paul F - thanks a load! Same problem for us, small plastic clothing tag bit found in the pump. A bit fiddly, but fixed in under an hour. Very good instructions - cheers! Much appreciate the tips.

Brilliant advice guys, up and running. Thank you

Paul F you are a star. My dishwasher is now up and running perfectly! A small bit of metal was stuck in the pump, that has saved me having to wash up and a call out to an engineer! Thanks very much for the advice

Jane, December 2009
Again, absolutely spot on advice. My impellor pump had a small bit of brocken crockery which had accidently gone down the pipe from the sink. Many many thanks!

Jim, November 2009
absolutley spot on with your advice, found a small piece of glass in the impeller / pump, once removed it turned freely, worked a treat..... thank you

same problem, put washer on left hand side, remove six screws from bottom plate, pull back, find pump, follow drainage pipe back, pump is white ,remove one screw and twist counterclockwise, you may have to unclip drainage pipe, unplug electrical connector, now split pump in two by removing 3 screws, mark 2 halves for reassemlby, dont think the impeller comes out, but i found a very small washer in mine which was jamming the impeller, reassemble in rerverse order, fairly easy job
1 hour maybe, dont forget the electrical connector, i did, but all is well now

ben, March 2009
Me too. Dishwasher won't drain, and flashes indicator lamps 1 & 2 ( for which there is no explanation in the user manual).

DougBarry, January 2009
I'm having exactly the same problem, did you manage to find a solution?
