12hp Briggs engine?

Something loose in the engine. I have it off the rider, when turning it by hand ,sometimes something catchs in the engine. I'm a sewing machine mechanic not small engine. Was wondering if anyone knows if this is a common problem with this engine, and if it is easy repair. All answers appreciated.

Good for you!
If you have any trouble getting it dialed in just post again.
I'm between mower and snow blower repair seasons here,
so I'm checking these forums almost daily.

Hey Rick , I found a engine just like mine with the bearing spun on the bottom, used my bottom casing and now have it mounted on mower. Just ran it for a few minutes and it didn't leak. I might have something . Thanks again gerard

I'm assuming your engine is a 12HP I/C
You can buy a new short block that the parts you salvaged
will bolt on to, but their not cheep. You may be better off
to look or a used engine. I've seen a few on ebay, but
beware of shipping costs before bidding.

Rick, I took the engine apart, you were right,it had a busted rod bearing, saved the starter, carb, magneto, muffler casing was cracked. Thanks for the help

Don't turn that engine any more. If it's a broken rod you can do major damage by turning it. Most often I find the oil slinger off the bottom of the connecting rod has come loose. At any rate anything loose in an engine usually means a rebuild. But first you'd need to check to be sure the block is not cracked anywhere. If it is the engine is junk.
