My Cmax is nearly 5 years old. Over the last few days a knocking noise has become apparent from the front left hand side of the car.

The noise does not increase in volume or speed up when the car accelerates.

I am wondering whether it is the anti roll bars? Any other ideas?

I would suggest the drop-link probably needs replacing. Not expensive fortunately. Test for play top and bottom of the link, or remove the link and drive it and see if the noise disappears, if it does you know the culprit - fit a new one.
