can i run a fan oven safely without the fan screen?

Hi I've got a 1990s AEG cooker with fan oven, was in a house I bought recently. The fan (lower)oven didn't chuck out much heat, untill I took the fan screen off. Is it OK to run it without the screen? It is caked up with the usual brown gunk

yes.this metal bit is a grease filter and can be replaced or as you have done removed.if you are cooking fatty meats alot I would get a replacement or cover the food in tin foil as it can cause a smokey oven when you open the oven door
