canon not loading tape?

my canon uc9hi will not take the tape down into the camera body.after closing the tape compartment it waits approx 7 seconds then opens again. before this it would take the tape down but then would bring it up and open again

Snap, mine does exactly the same. Sounds like it's not an unknown problem!

Although obviously a few years old it hasn't had much use, so would love to fix it rather than it become junk.
