how can i fix my jaguar automatic gearbox?

I own a 2001 Jaguar S Type 4.0 sports Auto. The display says gearbox fault, and the gear selection has become tempramental. Do i have to replace the gearbox or can I fix it?

Hi the gearbox,s give a lot of faults!!
The car needs to have the fault codes read to see what the problem is,it may not need a gearbox rebuild or a new gearbox a repair may be possable.
