this machine switches on neutral so there is a live feed to all components as soon as its turned on. most common problem is dryer heating element

Yes,- but don't rule out that the element may have corroded sufficiently to develop a pin prick hole which has allowed water into the chalk filling in the element.
This would trip the main fuse as soon as the washer went onto the water heating cycle
