how can I tighten the clutch on my 97 corsa cdx,1389cc?

my clutch cable is taking right on the boards and the car is starting to creep when in first or reverse with clutch flat down It was a new cable fitted by a garage one year ago, even then the adjustment remained too close to the boards! all other cars I have driven take third to half way up? Can I sort this myself or is it best to have the garage do it again. The cost concerns me?

It's actually remarkably easy, have a look at this thread:

The cable will have stretched slightly. Adjust it in the engine bay. Get someone to depress the pedal while you've got the bonnet up and you'll see where the cable operates. Towards the end of the cable there are 2 nuts, the last nut is a locknut, undo this slightly while holding a spanner on the inner (adjusting) nut, so the latter can be turned. Turn the adjusting nut clockwise a few turns until the clutch "bite point" is where you want it to be, then do up the lock nut again so the adjustment stays in place. Don't over-adjust it otherwise your clutch may slip and burn out.
