How can I fix my mileometer?

I have a Ford Ka that has been once around the clock and up to another 22,000. The problem is the clock has stuck at 21,000. The last three digits are changing but not the 1,000. Is this illegal? Can it be fixed or do I need to replace it.

i cant believe i listened to you

i done what you said , put in reverse while going foward and have ruined my gearbox , bits came out from the top of it

The garage said there is no way that would work and my dad told me i am a retard for doing it.

Thanks for nothing . Im going to sue you now.

Yes this is common and not illegal unless you knowingly tell lies in order to sell the vehicle and knowingly offer for sale by way of advertisement a different mileage to what has been actually run by the vehicle.

This stuck clock can be fixed by:

Driving forward at exactly 50 mph, fully depress the clutch and force the car into reverse gear while still in motion at 50 mph.
Do this somewhere sensible of course. This will regrind the counter winder and make it tighter so the cable will turn in the clock behind properly. Always works everytime.
Give it a try
