rover 214 cabriolet M reg shocks?

Just bought the car and found the previous owner had an advisory note on the last MOT 3000 miles and six months ago re the shocks!

Will irrepairable damage have been done now?

Its does say on advisory note, both rear shocks 'damp' guess I should change them?

Will I hear metal grating noises or will the car just drag on the rear if it gets worse?

Thank for replies I really dont know much about these things

I doubt it. The shock absorbers were probably just weaker than when new at the time of the MOT test. Could well pass the MOT with the same ones next time, unless they have begun to leak. On a car that age I wouldn't replace them unless a) it was necessary to do so to pass the MOT test, or b) if the handling had deteriorated to the point when driving it had become unsafe or uncomfortable.
