if cold turn off mains--- if hot ( assume not gas central heating ) go to attic close off all valves at tank - if water stops then remove tap cover body - may be conical cover or screw in centre of turning bit - remove screw and pull off to see actual tap body ( unscrew ) and you will see a nut on the tap body - unscrew and you will find tap washer in end of removed stem - push off old washer- push on new and re-fit internal stem - open all valves and tap should work --- note gas central heating should have a main isolater valve near the boiler and this will stop flow while you replace washer - hand washing tap has a 1/2 in washer - bath taps have a 3/4 in washer
