silly question? i've pulled one of the resistor cards from an almera microa (the cards smaller) it fits in my sisters standard micra, but its not the long type of card like the original.
I was surprised how hot these cards get!

should i be worried about using the shorter card from the almera micra in a standard 1996 alemra?
cards are simular, but smaller.

help!

i fixed mine changed it from scrap yard but had to try 3 first before found 1 that works it was off an almera not micra but found most parts i need will come off almera what i did was leave the fualty 1 off and try them whilst in scrap yard that way only had to pay for 1 which only cost me 2.50

i bought from rs shop three power rezistors placed them on alu plate thicnnes 5mm wire them and plug in to connector undestroyable dam!!! resistor: 1pos 2,7 ohm can by less up to 2 ohm . 2pos 1 ohm. 3pos 0.5 ohm, power of res. should by 50W min. i doule power for each position but sink, and res. is no so hot that what i thing 50w gonna by plenty, and you save many resistor cost 3euro each ,alu plate ,scrap is wherever you want couple terminals, small solder job and u dontneed go to scrap yard asking man over there who wanted to sell me these pack for 30 euro ,one change was made in hayen ser. book resistor are wired in serial conection i did paralel

yes,had 2 faulty resistors on a 95 and 98 micra, just bridged the gap on resistor where worn,i used a bit of foil taped on,just to test, and bingo it works ,so a good bit of thin solder will make a good job

gambo, January 2010
yep defo the resister. Simply bend down in the passanger seat and you will see the heater unit. To the right of that there is a scart type plug. Undo the screws next to the scart plug. The plug should now come towards you. Remove the old resister. Repeat to re-fit

fan not working nissan micra 1999, fan motor working fine, tried a second hand resistor from scrappy still not working any ideas anybody

The problem is due to failure of the resistor in the blower-motor circuit. It needs to be replaced with a new one - from a Nissan dealer ~£30.
Get the Haynes Manual (for Nissan Micra) on loan from your local library (ask them to order it for you if necessary). This tells you how to do the job. Read this first & decide if you are capable of doing it - before you buy the part. The location of the resistor is under the glove box - you can reach it using a mirror & a good torch & small socket spanner - so you don't have to remove the dashboard. Good luck. I have done it recently. Take care & remember to disconnect the battery lead as stated in the Haynes book whilst working on this job - to avoid any shorting, etc.

you can bridge the gap left by the broken link...
Had the same fan problem (only works on pos. 4)
Soldered accross the broken strip...
Works fine again...
Excellent money saving idea.

The blower on my heater in my 1999 micra is not working and am not 100% sure whether there is any heat coming out either.

Do you think it is a resistor or new motor that I need.

I have been told that the new motor bought new is very expensive but the fitting is easy.

I wondered if I bought the motor from say ebay, how hard it would be to fit myself?

Does anyone know?

Many thanks

N

Wow! I have EXACTLY the same problem (also 52 micra), except that I still have settings 3 and 4 working. Anyhow this is really helpful, so thanks a lot!

Does anyone know how to get the fan off the motor and get inside to the brushes?

I have had the same problem with my Nissan Micra 1995. After a lot of research and trial and error, I found the resistor card 'fuse' had rusted and broken. I soldered this (can use a bit of paperclip). I then found that the motor was really dirty and had loads of bits in it so cleaned wherever I could and blew out with an airline. The drag of the motor seems to melt the resistor 'fuse'. This worked for a while but I have had to clean again and there is more 'dust' coming out. I believe the brushes are worn but cannot work out how to get the fan off the motor and get inside to replace Brushes. Nissan dealer are asking £251 for a new motor but I know if I could get inside I could match up some brushes (even filing to fit) and clean up the commutator and it should then work ok. Does anyone know how to get the fan off the motor and get inside to the brushes?

Forgot to say that when I tried the motor outside the car it worked ok upside down but slowed when upright and when back in the car would sometimes come on when I went over a bump (possible either making contact with the brushes or more dirt shifting) before I cleaned it out.

car doesnt blow warm air at all, butswitch works as does the cold air works through the fan

Great response Bob. Sorted out same problem on wifes Micra with a 5amp link wire across gap just in case it shorts in future.

This is most likely going to be due to the Heater Blower Resistor having failed.

You can locate it in the passenger footwell, next to the blower motor. There is a brown and white block connector plugged into it. Remove the connector, then remove the 2 phillips screws holding the resistor in place, then remove the resistor itself by pulling it downwards.

You will probably find that the fusable link has failed or maybe corroded.

You can get a replacement resistor from ebay / local scrappy / nissan dealer, etc, or if you can solder, you can bridge the gap left by the broken link, like I did today, then replace the unit in the car - job done.
