how to change a shower head and hose?

How easy is it to change a shower head and the chrome hose? I want to put a longer hose on my shower along with a new head. Are shower heads and hoses a universal fit?

Do I need to turn any mains water off or drain any pipes? Does it involve getting a plumber?

Hi, I bought a new shower hose yesterday and water is pouring out from the bottom of the connector- can anyone offer any advice?

Hi,
My shower leaks really badly as I think the hose is split! Do you think I can change just that without having to relace the whole shower unit? x

Thanks again chris d. You've been very helpful.

hi rob, when you have unscrewed the hose from the shower body the bore is the internal hose diameter NOT the thread size of the nut that is a standard size you need to make sure you get the same size bore as the one you have.Take your hose to the diy store and compare it with those on the shelf, they do vary between electric showers and mixer valves.BUT THE THREADS ARE THE SAME.compare them and you will see the difference, just get one the same only longer.

Thanks chris d for your advice.

Got one more question (could be me being thick): To measure the bore of my existing hose do I measure the internal diameter and at what point? I think the thread might be larger (haven't taken it apart yet).

thanks

no,nothing to worry about.Just make sure the shower is turned off and lay the shower head down in the bath or shower and undo the knurled nut which attaches the hose to the shower body,a little water may dribble out but not much.check the size of the bore of the hose and get one the very same.you would normally get new washers with a new hose, these go between the hose and shower and between hose and head. Just make sure that if your shower is over a bath the hose CANNOT fall into the bath. Good Luck
