peugeot 206 2002 engine warning and loss of power?

My 206 was running fine till it seemed to jerk and then the warning light started beeping and the engine lost power, it seems to me that one or more pistons isnt firing and the engine is very spluttery! will this be as major fix? any idea on cost to fix? can i fix it myself or do i need to have a pro deal with the engine management system as well?

Had my pug for one month and it's been back to the garage 5 times now for loss of power. Collected it yesterday after they had fitted a new coil pack and then today when taking it out it lost power and the ECU light came back on and stayed on. Have contacted Trading Standards who have told me that to get my money back I need to 'reject' the car and leave it with the garage but that it could take several months before I see any money. This isn't an option as I will then have no car, and no money to buy another one. The garage just keep taking it back for 1-2 days at a time and then they give it back to me saying it's fixed. I always manage to get it home but the next day the problem starts again.
Any ideas anyone????

I have had simular proiblems with a customers car of which turned out to be a clogged injector, I took all the injectors out and sprayed then with carb dleaner and refitted with new `0` rings (seals), have not had a problem since.
Fuel treatment are a must these days as modern fuels are rubbish due to the emmision laws and less additives in the fuel (petrol and diesel).
Note....
You should not touch the fuel system unless you know what you are doing as fuel in fuel system is under high pressure, leaks will cause a fire.

Hi Rickster

I have a 2002 Pug 206 and the same problem i have had 2 new coil packs put on and a number of other things done too it recently had the cam belt changed at a dealer garage and they checked it out too. long story short i am still getting the same fault and nobody seems to know why. there are a number of posts like this on a number of sites and no answers just more questions. The fault has seemed to develop as time has progressed and it started with the miss firing pistons and the coil pack and now it has spread into a £500 job and counting. go to a pro and hope for the best!!!

Cheers
