Kettle switched on without water, can it be fixed?

I accidentally switched on my electric kettle without filling it with water and now it won't turn on. Is it ready for the scrap heap or can it be repaired by replacing some part?

It will most almost certainly have burned out the element. scrap it unless it has great sentimental value and you are confident of doing it yourself.
