how do you replace the headlight bulb on vw polo gti 2000?

i have tried to change the headlight bulbs on my polo but cannot get the covers off to access the bulbs i tried for about 15 mins then gave up. how do i do this? as it is not as strightforward is a thought.

The left lamp is a bear because there is very little clearance between the lamp and battery. First pry wire from dust cover over the lamp. The reach WAAAAY in and pull wire off the end of the bulb. There is a clamp holding the bulb in. Push down and out of the clasp. The bulb will then come right out. Even with my (relatively) small hands it was difficult. I am pleased with myself for figuring it out, because it is also difficult to see

By 'cover' do you mean the rubber cap at the rear of the light fitting? they simply pull off although access can be tricky
