Hi, I have been told that the motor has gone in my washing machine. It fills okay but when it starts to wash the drum spins erratically eg starts then stops but like its trying to wash at spin speed. I was told that the tacho on the motor has failed and would require a new motor. Could it be worn brushes?

If the brushes are worj then the motor will slow down, or in an electronic controlled system, stop. The tacho control is an entirely different thing, and would cause the symptoms you describe.
