Veritas 8 Compact, won't set?

Hi,

We have the Veritas 8 Compact alarm. A few days back the control panel started making a load buzzing noise. I opened it up and found a small square tab had come loose from somewhere.

Took this out, and put the cover back on. now the alrm won't set. I put the user code in and pressing any of the four right buttons just results in an single buzz.

The Powe LED is on, the 24HR led is flashing and the unset LED is on.

Can anyone advise as to whats wrong? there is nothing in the manual regarding the 24HR LED.

regards,
Shin

Hi,
Some progress. While replacing the battery i killed all power to the panel. When it came back up all is working ok.

The problem now is that I cannot change codes, do walk test etc. Before you entered in your code, and pressed the PROG key and so on. Now after the pressing the PROG key you just get that error beep.

The prog key does work, as a ended up testing the PIRs by setting it to chime mode, a zone at a time.

Also everytime i remove the cover, and stop the alarm with the code. I have to kill all power (battery and mains) in order to clear the tamper light.

ok,

I'll double check the wires, maybe one got knocked as i was putting the case back on.

The battery is quite large and pushes against the wires at the bottom of the PCB, and against the cover as it goes on.

Is it posible to bypass the bell tamper by joining its tamper pins directly with a bit of wire?

Also does the system tell you where it thinks the tamper fault is (via the LED's), or does it just alert you that there has been an tamper somewhere?

Hi Shin

Looks like the tamper for the keypad is OK but there is still a tamper fault with the system. The Keypad, Main Box, Bell Box all are on seperate tamper circuits

You could go into the main panel (alarm will go off again) and check each sensors tamper individually but It may be better to get an Alarm Engineer in

Sorry I can't be any more help but it's difficult to diagnose without seeing it first hand or knowing a lot more information

Hi Andy,

Every time i remove the cover the alarm goes off, and i have to put the code in to stop it. Does that indicate that the tamper switch is ok?

I also closed the "TAMP" circuit by connecting a wire to both points and that didnt help

I'm relunctant to remove the backup battery to do an reset in case there is an engineer code. As the installer has now retired and cannot be contacted and i cannot locate an manual for this older (1996) model.

The 24HR LED is telling you that there is a tamper fault, open the cover again and there should be a spring with a switch inside it, press this switch and the 24HR LED should go out, if not then the switch is faulty and you need a new keypad

Just to clarify, the small plastic tab was a clear plastic square, with two lumps on it. It had loosened off from the main power cabling connector block. So I pushed it back on again.
