Hotpoint condenser ctd00 tumbles but no heat?

As above have cleaned all that I can but no heat. What should I do as it'll cost me around £90 and I've seen on here possible to do yourself for a lot less. Step by step plan would be really helpful,

Cheers,

Pete.

cheers you guys - no one tells you they reset when you buy your second pair!

Thanks this was a great post.

Did not have a volt meter so used my kids Stylophone!! to check circuit. One Thermostat was blown.

Sadly I had the "one shot" non reset, green spot thermostats so had to buy a new pair from ebay for £10.

Real bargain saved me a fortune.

Thanks

The step by step instructions were stop on!! Cheers Dr Bob and John. From where I read elsewhere my safety switch probably tripped when my Daughter bumped the door open while the dryer was on. This does something with the airflow, steam and temperature, I'm not really sure, but to cut it short don't open the dryer door while it is in full flow. Thanks again, I'm going to spend the money you saved me on the beer festival up the road.....don't worry I'll have 1(or 2) for you. Cheers!!

So awesome. Thanks to all the correct answers that told me to check the pin hole in the thermostat! Fixed with a click! Cleared out some of the crud in there too. Enough to fill a mattress!

Hi Guys, this guide just saved me the cost of a new dryer.
my dryer had worked along without a hitch for 14 months then there was no heat. found this guide and problem solved in less than 10 mins.
It worked like a charm. Thanks very much.

John - can I just say what a star you are for this answer - - I didn't realise those thermostat things could be reset like that - (this is after I went out to the Hotpoint shop and was sold a complete new element/thermostat set for £35... :-( - - but at least I have a spare now for when the element DOES go). For those looking for "step by step" instructions:

- Turn the power off!
- Take off the spindle cover plate (2 screws) on the back
- Take off the fan cover plate (about 8 screws around the perimeter) on the back.
- The heater/thermostat unit is attached to this with two more screws through the back of the fan cover plate: careful now as the heating elements can be easily damaged.
- On the "inside" of the heater/thermostat unit are the black sides of the two round thermostats. One should be unmarked - the other has a light blue/lilac dot on it. (As per other answer on this page you can check if they are working (or not) via an electrical meter or simple lamp circuit: resistance anything other than zero is good - else it has tripped).
- The hole John references is in the middle of the therm with the lilac dot. As John says, put a pin in the hole and press gently til you hear a click.
- Then reassemble in reverse order.

Hope this helps.

reset stat with a saftey pin place pin in hole at top push down carefully till a click is heard .this is found on the stats at the back .on top of heater

Hi Peter, unplug dryer, take off the back plate on the rear of dryer and you should be looking at the heater and two overloads [safety cut outs] that each have two wires, visually check heater looks OK but do not poke or touch as it is fragile, I would bet it is one of the cut outs blown [you can test with a meter or battery and bulb, both should carry current through if not replace, if both show OK then there is another behind front facia and if that is also OK then it will probably be the relay behind facia that has blown. 07973 155565
