potterton 50e Boilier will no fire up central heating is only selected?

Hi all,

Can anybody suggest what need replacing to fix the following problem
Potterton 50e boiler.
when the electronic timer is set to bring the central heeting on the boiler will not fire up.
however if hotwater is set to also come on the boiler fires up and the radiators and hot water tanks are heated.
I think the problem is to due with the boiler firing mechanism, as the red light on the electronic timer lights up.
Any suggestions.

thanks

I had exactly the same problem. Potterton profile 50e The heating would not start on its own. However if you put the water on the heating would start (and then only till the water tank reached it.s optimum temp. I fixed it last night by changeing the motorised valve that sits on the pipe (mine was a Sunvic 3port) - The part cost £36 quid from B&Q simple to fit - although it came with the big brass valve - i only used the motor (white bit). Hope this helps
