what is wrong ?

I have a belling gas cooker and when i ligh the oven i have to holf the cooker knob in for 30 seconds for it to light but when i release the knob it goes out, it lights ok , i have brought a new knob but that has not worked

The oven has a safety device fitted.It sounds like it is a thermocouple on yours.Thats the part that will need changing.
