My radiator valve is stuck in the off position ?

I have a Myson radiator valve which is 13 years old. I cannot see how to get the casing from the radiator valve in order to release the mechanism. The radiator is contantly cold. The valve turns but does not activate the mechanism.
can you help me.

I removed a bathroom radiator, while i fitted a new floor/tiles replaced it after a few week, When I turned the valve but snapped the turning part on the valve.
Is there anyway i can replaced this part without replacing the whole valve?

if its a rad stat it sounds like the piston inside the valve is stuck at the bottom. to remove the plastic knob there will be a large knurled nut just below the plastic. it might need a set of grips to loosen but if you turn plastic knob up to its highest setting it will release pressure on the spring inside. you should be left with the brass valve only, if rad starts to warm up the thermostat is goosed, if its still cold the valve has seized. u might be able to free the valve by easing it up with ur grips, but it might seize up again if its not used very often. And as Richard said i would bleed the rad just to save ur boiler from going pop! just check ur boiler to see if it has a CH pressure gauge, if it has make a note of the pressure and after bleeding let more water in to system to take it back upto the noted pressure. if you havnt a combi boiler or a gauge then dont worry about pressures.
if the valve is stuck then its a bigger job!!! means a new rad stat.. but try this first....

I assume it is just an ordinary manual valve not a thermostatic valve and that you can turn the plastic cover - but to no effect. Often the plastic covers simply pull off or you may have to prise off a cover on the top and then remove a screw to remove it. Once you can get to the metal you should be able to turn it with a spanner. Make sure you check both ends of the rad in case someone has shut down both of them ( as you would if you were removing it). You should bleed it to make sure it is not full of air.
