cable broke on my self propel mower how can I fix it?

Cable broke right at the lever on the handle.
Is it an easy fix? Can I fix it?

Firstly before anyone tells me its a bodge job--Yes i know but i have done it on loads of mowers and it works a treat.
If theres enough slack on the cable cut the cable till its a clean cut- then cut down the outer cable-- rethread the whole lot through and use a screw type fitting out of a normal 240 volt plug to make a moveable nipple - screw up the fitting and it should work a treat.

It is already broke so I don't think I can do much damage - If you tell me what you think needs to be done I can then determine if I can fix it... I am not afraid to try.. I think that is the first step?
If I can't fix it I will take it to get repaired. Just thought I would try to understand what need to be done before I take it in.
