I have a Dimplex MicroFire and it had a noisy flame effect.
I fixed it by buying a replacement synchronous motor from Amazon supplied by SourchingMap
8-10 RPM 220-240V 4W, CCW/CW
To fit you have to undo all the screws on the back of the fire and lift out the innards. The motor shaft is slightly fatter and the fixing locations will need to redefined. To do this make a cardboard template and drill 2 off 2mm holes for the fixing screws. Shorten the wires from the motor and fit them into the terminal block. When reassembled the motor can run clockwise or anti-clock wise, so just switch off the supply till it runs the right way.
But wonderful it is silent - PROBLEM SOLVED.

were can ifind a motor for my electric fire

carol, November 2009
The small synchronous motors which turn the flame-effect spindle are mounted directly onto metal which seems to amplify any sound the motor makes.
I have modified mine and mounted the motor on flexible rubber which has made it virtually silent. Of course, you need to run a separate earth wire from the motor to the fire chassis as the motor will no longer be earthed if you don't.

Unfortunately, electric fire manufacturers seem to do very little about preventing irritating flame-effect noise. I know from experience that such noises can be incredibly annoying.

Hi Wendy my dimplex Springborne optiflame stove also makes a ticking noise quite loud at times and is driving me mad Checked the blurb from Dimplex and it does say that the fire makes a noise :- quote - It may be possible to hear a sound which is related to the operation of the flame effect. This is normal and should be not be a cause for concern. On further investigation I found the noise was coming from the wee chinese motor that turns the flame effect spindle but to date I have not solved it !!!!!!!!!!!!!
