Bought the car last month and it was an intermittent problem to start with. Turn the ignition key and nothing - turn the key 20 mins later and started. This problem it now permanent and the only thing I get when I turn the key is a buzzing from the prheating system relay / timer unit and the alarm goes off. Please please can anyone help me. Cheers. I had this problem with my 93 TD. I fitted a replacement starter motor.No joy. Dirt builds up in the ignition barrel, this causes a resistance and drop in voltage to the starter(only about 0.3/ 0.5 volts) This is enough for it not to turn over. Remove the ignition barrel and spray wd40 through it and see the dirt that comes out. My ZXstarted first time and has run ever since.

Try rocking the car back and forth in gear ( ignition off) as the starter may have got stuck, also check and clean the battery terminals and clamps and the earth strap to the body.
