I have taken the rubber seal handle off and the metal bracket off put it all back but the boot still will not open when you try to use the handle. What am i doing wrong

The boot on my 07 vauxhall Astra design will not open as well n above 20mph it beeps n drives me mad. My partner leaned on the boot at the same time as trying to open it n it opened so we got shopping out. I sprayed a little wd40 hoping this might lubricate it but when I shut it it again it won't open

Hi Dave November 2014, if you are out there, what do you with the peculiar looking plastic tool attached to the inside of the fuel filler cap to open the boot ?

Tony, January 2015
same old problem as you all, boot wont open fuses ok what I did was remove the rubber from the boot handle prized 0ut the plastic handle put my finger in and press the square button and pop the boot opened I then packed the square button with some insulating tape, works for now.

mike, December 2014
Just letting us know , there is a perculier looking plastic tool attached to the inside of the fuel filler cap , this is for opening the boot ( and also removing dust caps)

Dave, November 2014
My fuse is ok. Packed a bit of paper under the rubber, on top of micro switch. Boot opens fine now. A scrap piece of plastic would probably more professional than paper!

i have a vauxhall astra twintop 2007 it leaking water into the boot as wheel well is full of water and there are moulds to side of boot inside. Is there anywhere where i can have the seals done cheaper than the dealers as they are charging me £492 to lit news seal and labour?

the boot on my corsa will open now and then well it feels like it 57 model

Having the same problem on an 06 plate astra,
Boot wouldn't open but washers working fine.
got the boot open from the inside there is a small rubber bung in the boot trim, behind this there is a square drive which i turned and the boot popped open.
When i pulled the boot trim off i checked all wires and connections to see that the central locking/power connection from the boot loom to the boot latch was corroded, a new boot loom was required. Paid £40 for the part from vauxhall and fitted it myself.
Hope this helps

I have twintop, same problem, boot wont open, I cant access through the rear seats, any ideas?

peter240z, April 2013
Ive just had it happen on my 06 1.9 SRI, did you all suffer with the dash board light telling you the boot was open as mine is but the boot is closed. Not only that I have the beeping nose you get when you've left the door or boot open. Have checked the washer and it works, wuld this still be the same fault? My number plate light also stays on which is normally the case when the boot is open.

Same problem 2005 Astra 1.9 CDTI Try the fuse first, if not that then its the micro switch come un-stuck. The URL link in this string of messages is excellent. However, instead of re-sticking the switch in I've done the following. Push the switch fully home, then drill a 1.5mm hole through the body on both sides of the tube the switch fits in, as close to the switch as you can. Carefully oval out the holes horizontally, just big enough to get a small cable tie through. Thread the cable tie right through the housing immediately above the switch but dont tighten it yet. Insert a piece of non compressible packing, I used half a match, between the cable tie and the top of the switch. Then tighten the cable tie. The packing under the cable tie provides tension to ensure the switch can't slip back. Unlike using glue, the cable tie is unlikely to degenerate with age.

Best board I've found so far, my boot wont open 2006 astra 1.4 hatch, washers working ok, so its looking like the micro switch, will post again when fixed....btw when releasing the boot lid from inside the car, I used a quarter drive extension bar with t-bar on the end and it opened my locked boot ok. Its kinda sprung loaded.

keith, April 2012
does this problem with the micro switch in the handle affect the button on the key not opening the boot?? I will check the fuse when i can.

matt, January 2012
I have just had the same problem on my 55 plate Astra (boot won't open but washers o.k.) . Fixed it by following advice of Peter in Dec 2010 and going to;

Ive got this problem with my boot, but my washers/wipers work fine.. does this mean its not the fuse??

Caroline, November 2011
Had same with my 55 plate Astra, fuse is fine my prob was the switch which cost £39 plus £20 labour. Anyone from Swindon, wilts that has this problem should go to T James Motors, they're highly skilled, good rates and their honest!

Hi,

Had same problem with my 57 plate astra. For the last 3 weeks,my boot has been getting worse. Until the point where it did not open at all.

Over the last couple of days the windscreen washer/jet stopped working.

So had a look in the manual, changed the fuse (10 amp, red) and now the windscreen washers/jet are working fine. Boot also seems to be working, hope it stays like this (touch wood!).

Jat, March 2011
Took the rubber seal off the handle, removed the plastic part that slide into a switch when pressed, put a small piece of cardboard into the switch to allow the plastic part to connect with it again.

Worked on first test only time will tell

Steve, March 2011
I have same problem with my 55 astra design 1.7CDTI. I hope that somebody would be bold enough to sue vauxhall and force them to fix this mediocre design of switch for free.

How do i open the boot? The fuse is ok, so NOT the fuse....how do i open the boot to get to the switch

Paul, February 2011
See http://www.astraownersclub.com/vb/showthread.php?t=177736

has it been getting worse gradually?

The glue used to hold the micro switch in place goes brittle after 3 or 4 years, then the switch moves back when you squeeze instead of depressing the button.

20 minutes to strip, 10 minutes to fix (remove old glue, run in new glue) let glue harden before testing, 10 minutes to re-assemble).

If the bolts holding the silver trim to the hatch lids are rusted - you may need a new trim if you break the old one

adam, March 2010
On my 05 astra design it was the no 7 fuse the red 10amp that had blown and both washer jets and boot are on this fuse even though it does not tell you this in the manual

Gillian, February 2010

Nicola, January 2010

Rob, January 2010
I have a 55 plate astra and the boot was slowly getting harder to open and now it wont open at all. Vauxhall want £40 just to look at it, i'm trying to find out how to do it myself.
It's not the fuse, must be the boot switch, maybe corroded or wires loose, just need to get the boot open and get to the switch to see, any ideas.

Jane, May 2009
i cant get my boot open on my 54 plate astra! anyone any ideas on how to fix this problem??

karlos, April 2009
Sarah, I don't think it is fuse related as the rear windscreen washers are still working as normal.

Any other solutions?

Az, February 2009
I've had exactly the same problem with my Vaux Astra Design 05 too! It's a pain...not yet had a chance to take it to a garage...anyone else managed to fix it?

Az, February 2009
Hi 'I think it's a fault with the handle.I have exactly the same prob with my 54 astra. It's really annoying.Have you managed to sort it as yet?

annoyed driver!, February 2009
I am sure you have already worked out, but this can be the fuse that also powers your windscreen washers !!
