how do i fix humming on my car?peugeot 607 2ltr diesel 2005?

hi i have a humming sound in the rear of my 2.ltr 607 diesel from about 50 mph up.i jacked both sides of the car and there was no play in the wheels could it be a wheel bearing... thanks
