how to diagnose problem with exhaust emissions?

I have a vauxhall zafira 1.6. The exhaust emissions light keeps coming on and I dont want to pay lots of money to a main dealership for a diagnostics test if it could be the lamber sensor or cat (which i can do myself). Anyone know if this could be the problem

I am also facing the same problem. The exhaust emission light is always on. However, on driving above 50 mph, the light starts blinking. It stops blinking, the moment I come down to below 50 mph.

Did you use Cataclean ? What were the effects ?

You need to have a diagnostic done. You don't have to use a Vauxhall dealer. A decent none Vauxhall garage should charge around £25 for a diagnostic. Phone & ask for a price first.
Other choice buy a OBD 2/canbus reader off fleabay for under £50 & diagnose prob yourself. Basically plug reader in to diagnostic port & it will come up with an error code. You can reuse these readers on most cars, so a good diy tool. I bought one a couple of years ago & cost me around £30 & came with fault code book. I have used reader 3 times successfully on different makes of cars.
I have an 2000 Astra G, OBD port (looks like a scart socket), under handbrake lever inside car. May be the same for your Zafira, but not sure.
Otherwise it's guess work.
