generally the protuding side would face you. sometimes the clutch plate has a marking "F/S" meaning flywheel side, this would also help you. be sure to use a clutch alignment tool to carryout this task otherwise you will have problems fitting the gearbox. if still in doubt ask a qualified mechanic for advice. good luck my friend and be safe..
