Noise from engine?

I have a Y reg 1.4 Peugeot 206. There is a mechanical rattle coming from the right hand side of the engine (opposite end to the cam belt) Could it be the water pump? The car has done 56000 miles.

Thankyou for your help, the noise definitely comes from the opposite end to the cambelt so I can rule out the water pump. The clutch has always been 'stiff' to operate and bites as soon as you start to release the pedal - feels horrible to be honest! I will ask her to see if the noise changes when the pedal is depressed.

If the noise is from gearbox side of engine its not going to be water pump as this is driven by cambelt its more likely a clutch problem does the noise change when pressing clutch pedal
